GOING FOR FISH & CHIPS

Sometimes at lunch time
down the street we would go
to the fish and chip shop
such a grown up thing to do

clutching our shillings tightly
Alison and me
walking past the BOAC gates
and on the way back
the smell of fish, chips and vinegar
would get the best of us
carefully opening up the newspaper
we'd pinch one each

certain that no one
would ever notice
the perfect newspaper folds
had been tampered with

I have to believe that you are in a much better place
April Wine blasting - no pain on your face
You are sitting by an ocean in the bright warm sun
Taking a long deserved rest, your worldly deeds done
You're chatting away to Grandad, you always make him tea,
Bragging about your boys again, that's the way it would be
and when I'm really missing you and need to tell you things
I smell the scent of flowers, faintly hear the sound of wings.

So many gifts you gave me
the moments we had so few
So sad I had to lose you before I ever knew

Just how brave and strong you were
to have to leave us that way
your courage stays with me constantly
I think of you every day

I know you're busy guardianing
Your energy is ever near
Your soul lives on around me
Your presence always clear.

Love Kim
